Pinto beans are cooked for several hours along with smoked shank, tomato sauce, chili powder, brown sugar, vinegar and spices, which fill it with a whole bunch of flavors with sharp, sweet, sour and spicy notes. Can be served as a side dish, as a snack or main course. Do not forget to soak the beans overnight so that it cooks faster. Also keep in mind that the fresher the production date is on the packaging, the faster your beans are cooked.

Recipes use volumetric containers with the volume:
1 cup (st.) – 240 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) – 180 ml.
1/2 cup (tbsp.) – 120 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) – 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) – 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp.) – 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) – 5 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 1 pork knuckle
  • 4 tbsp. dry pinto beans
  • 1 can (425 gr.) Canned tomato sauce
  • 1/4 Art. chili powder
  • 1/4 Art. brown sugar
  • 2 – 3 tbsp. l white vinegar
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 onion, diced



Recipe preparation:

  1. Rinse the beans under cold water, removing all stones / debris. Pour in cold water and soak for 6-8 hours.
  2. Drain the water from the beans and put it in the pan with the knuckle; pour clean water 5 cm above. Add tomato sauce, chili powder, brown sugar, white vinegar, garlic, onion, 1 tbsp. l salt and 2 tsp. black pepper.
  3. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer, adding more water if necessary, until the beans are soft, 3-4 hours. Taste and salt and pepper if necessary.
