Sandwiches are cooked with toasted chicken and barbecue sauce, a more wholesome version of traditional American ragged pork. This recipe uses purchased grilled chicken. Remove the skin from it and chop the meat along the fibers with two forks. To serve, ragged chicken is mixed with a light barbecue sauce made from tomato sauce with molasses, spices, apple cider vinegar and a drop of liquid smoke for a characteristic mouth-watering aroma. Serve on whole grain buns with a leaf of lettuce.

Recipes use volumetric containers with a volume of:
1 cup (st.) – 240 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) – 180 ml.
1/2 cup (tbsp.) – 120 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) – 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) – 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp.) – 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) – 5 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 1 whole grilled chicken, remove the skin, chop meat into thin pieces (about 4 – 4.5 tbsp.)
  • 1 tbsp. l rapeseed oil (canola)
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves, minced garlic
  • 1 can (400 gr.) Lightly salted tomato sauce
  • 1/4 Art. tomato paste
  • 0.5 tbsp. water
  • 1/3 Art. cider vinegar
  • 5 tbsp. l molasses
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp liquid smoke
  • 6 whole grain hamburger buns
  • 6 large leaf lettuce



Recipe preparation:

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, heat oil. Add the onion and fry until it is soft and transparent, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and fry another 1 minute. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, vinegar, molasses, pepper and liquid smoke and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to moderately low and cook at low boil for 15 minutes. Add chopped chicken, bring to a boil again and simmer another 10 minutes.
  2. Cut the buns horizontally in half. Put on a lettuce leaf on the lower halves of the rolls, put 3/4 tbsp on top. chicken mix.
